# Projects

A project is a folder for everything that belongs to one business or one client: chatbots, landing pages, widgets, lists and the rest. Whatever you create in your account is created inside a project.

Why split your work into projects:

- **Order.** The bots and landing pages of the "Romashka" flower shop are kept apart from the coffee shop's bots.
- **Shared data.** Lists belong to the project and are available to all its bots — see [Lists](https://support.watbot.org/lists).
- **Access.** A team member can be invited to one project and will not see the others — see [Team and access](https://support.watbot.org/account/team).

The subscription, balance and team, however, are shared by the whole account, not by a project.

The first project — "My project" — is created at sign-up.

## Creating a project

1. In the main menu, open the project list and choose "New project".
2. Enter the "Project name" and click "Create".

An account can have up to 500 projects. One project can have up to 100 bots and up to 100 objects of every other kind: landing pages, widgets, tables and so on.

## Switching projects

The project list is at the top of the main menu. It has:

- "My projects" — your projects; the default project comes first;
- "Available projects" — other people's projects you were invited to;
- "Available chatbots" — other people's bots you were given access to separately.

When you switch, the platform keeps you in the same section: if you were looking at landing pages, the other project's landing pages open.

## The project menu

Under the project list are the sections of the selected project:

- "Chatbots" — see [Chatbots](https://support.watbot.org/chatbots);
- "Mini landing pages" — see [Mini landing pages](https://support.watbot.org/landings);
- "Mini apps" — see [Mini apps](https://support.watbot.org/mini-apps);
- "Online schools" — see [Online schools](https://support.watbot.org/schools);
- "Widgets" — see [Website widgets](https://support.watbot.org/widgets);
- "Appointments" — see [Appointments](https://support.watbot.org/booking);
- "Lists" — see [Lists](https://support.watbot.org/lists);
- "Knowledge bases" and "AI models" — see [AI](https://support.watbot.org/ai);
- the "More" group: "Access", "Tables", "Settings" and "Customize menu".

A team member sees only the sections they have permissions for.

### Ordering and hiding sections

You can remove unneeded sections from the menu and move the ones you need higher.

1. In the "More" group, click "Customize menu".
2. In the "Project menu" window, drag the sections into the order you want by the handle on the left.
3. Turn off the switch for the sections you don't need.
4. Click "Save".

Good to know:

- the setting is shared by all your projects and stored in your account: each team member has their own menu;
- a hidden section keeps working — it just isn't in the menu. It opens by a direct link and appears in the menu while it is open;
- at least one section must remain: you cannot turn off the last switch that is on;
- the "Reset" button restores the original order and shows all sections.

The first time a new user opens a project, the platform asks "What are you planning to do?". Tick what you need and click "Done" — the other sections are hidden. The "Keep all sections" button hides nothing. You can bring sections back at any time with "Customize menu".

## Project settings

Open "More" → "Settings". The settings are available to the project owner.

On the "Project settings" tab:

| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| "Icon" | The project's icon in the list. Click the icon and choose one of 16 |
| "Project name" | The name in the project list |
| "Default project" | The account's main project |

![The Project settings tab](https://support.watbot.org/_media/en/15-account/_images/project-settings.webp?v=1791781230)

There is one default project per account:

- it comes first in the project list;
- a bot installed from the template catalogue goes into it — see [Managing bots](https://support.watbot.org/chatbots/manage);
- it cannot be deleted.

If you turn on "Default project" for another project, the mark is removed from the previous one automatically.

## Deleting a project

1. Open "More" → "Settings" → the "More" tab.
2. Click "Delete" and confirm: "Are you sure you want to delete the project "…"?"

![Confirmation before deleting a project](https://support.watbot.org/_media/en/15-account/_images/project-delete.webp?v=1791781230)

Only an empty project can be deleted. First delete or move to another project everything in it: bots, landing pages, widgets, tables, lists and the rest. The default project cannot be deleted — first make another one the main project.

## Moving a bot or landing page to another project

A bot, mini landing page, widget, table and other objects can be moved from one of your projects to another.

1. Open a project section, for example "Chatbots".
2. In the "⋯" menu on the card, choose "Move to ...".
3. Choose the project and click "Move".

![The move to another project dialog](https://support.watbot.org/_media/en/15-account/_images/project-move.webp?v=1791781230)

Only the owner can move objects, and only between their own projects. Team members do not see the "Move to ..." item.

> [!NOTE]
> Lists belong to the project, not to the bot. Lists created in this bot that no other bots or mini apps of the project use move together with the bot — with all their records. If someone else in the old project uses a list, or the bot's blocks work with another bot's list, a copy is created in the new project — only the structure, without records. The move window lists such lists in advance. See [Copy, move and delete](https://support.watbot.org/chatbots/manage/copy-delete) for details.

To give a bot to another person, you don't move it — you transfer it to another account; see [Managing bots](https://support.watbot.org/chatbots/manage).

## Leaving someone else's project

If you were invited to a project and no longer need access:

1. In the project list, find the project in the "Available projects" group.
2. Click the bin icon next to it.
3. Confirm: "Access to the project will be closed. Are you sure you want to leave this project?"

Only the owner can give access back — with a new invitation.

## If something does not work

- **The project is not deleted.** Something is still in it, or it is the default project. Check all menu sections, including hidden ones, "Tables" and "Lists".
- **There are no "Settings" and "Access" items in the "More" group.** The account is in operator mode — it is meant for working in other people's projects. Turn off "Operator mode" in the account menu.
- **A section has disappeared from the menu.** It is hidden in "Customize menu", or you have no permissions for it.
- **The bot cannot be moved.** The target project already has 100 bots, or the bot is being transferred to another account right now.
