# Check if a row exists in Google Sheets

Checks whether a spreadsheet column has a cell with the given value, and leads the scenario down one of two branches.

## Settings

- **"Link to table"** and **"Sheet"** — where to look.
- **"Search text"** — what to look for. [Templates](https://support.watbot.org/chatbots/templates) work here, for example `{{ $promo_code }}` or `{{ phone }}`.
- **"Search column"** — the column letter.

The block looks for a cell whose value matches the text in full.

## Outputs

- "Exists" — the value is found.
- "Not exists" — the value is not in the column.

If not all fields are filled in, the bot sends 'Set up all the fields in the "Check for the existence of a record in Google Sheet" block.' and goes no further.

## Good to know

For the duration of the check, the block creates a service sheet in the spreadsheet and deletes it right away. So the connected Google account needs permission to edit the spreadsheet.
