# Send email

The block sends an email: to the contact's address or to an address you specify. The email can be sent right away or at a set time.

> [!IMPORTANT]
> Emails go through your mail server. Connect the SMTP server integration in the bot settings, in the "Integrations" section. The sender's name and address are taken from this integration. Until the integration is connected, emails are not sent — they wait in a queue.

## Settings

- **"Email Source"** — where to take the recipient's address from:
  - "Email constant" — the contact's email. It must be known by this point: for example, ask for it earlier with the "Email request" block.
  - "User variable" — an address from a contact variable. Choose it in the "Email variable" field.
  - "Install manually" — type the address in the "Email" field. All of the block's emails will go to it.
- **"Letter source"** — where to take the text from:
  - "User variable" — text from a contact variable. Choose it in the "Letter text variable" field.
  - "Install manually" — write the text in the "Letter" field, up to 4096 characters. [Templates](https://support.watbot.org/chatbots/templates) work in it.
- **"Sending type"** — "Send immediately" or "Send at the set time". In the second case, set the "Email sent date".
- **"Subject"** — a required field, up to 255 characters.
- **"Mailing name"** — a required field, up to 255 characters. Under this name the block's emails are grouped in the bot's list of email mailings.

## Outputs

- "Continue" — fires right after the block.

## Good to know

- The email is sent as plain text, without formatting.
- If the address is not found or the variable holds something other than an email address, the person sees "You did not enter your Email". If the email text is empty — "Message to send is not set". In these cases no email is created, and the scenario moves on.
