# Creating a list with AI

You do not have to set up a list by hand — you can ask the AI for it in the AI chat. There is no need to build a bot for that: write what needs to be stored — for example, "create a list of requests: name, phone, preferred time" or "make a list of bouquets with a price and a photo and fill it with examples". In the same way you can ask the AI to fill a list that the project already has with records.

## Which bot the list belongs to

There is nothing to switch on: the AI connects the chatbot building tools by itself — a "Chatbot builder" chip appears above the message field.

A list in a project is always created in some bot, so the AI first chooses the bot the chat works with: one of your bots, or a new one if the project has no bots. The bot's scenario does not change — the list simply appears in its "Lists" section. If you opened the chat with the "AI help" button on the bot's scheme, the list is created in that bot.

Wherever a list is created, it is available to all bots of the project.

If the AI is building a mini app in the chat, the list is created in it — the same way as when it works with a bot.

## How the AI creates a list

The AI first looks at which lists the project already has and takes a suitable one instead of setting up a similar one. If there is no such list, it:

- creates a list — the "Create a list" card with the name and the fields;
- fills it with records — the "Add records to the list" card with the number of records. This is how the AI fills in a catalogue, a price list or a schedule, so that the bot shows people a list that is not empty right away. Data the AI made up itself it calls examples — replace them with your own.

In the "Ask first" mode the list is created and the records are added only when you click "Apply". The modes are covered on the [Building a bot in the AI chat](https://support.watbot.org/chatbots/ai-builder#mode) page.

What is important to know:

- A list created by the AI is an ordinary project list. It appears in the "Lists" section of the project's menu with a note on where it was created, and it is edited the same way as one created by hand.
- The AI makes fields required unless you asked otherwise. You can hide a field or make it optional later in the [field settings](https://support.watbot.org/lists/create#field-settings). The AI does not create encrypted fields.
- The AI cannot delete fields, records or lists themselves — this is done in your account.
- The AI adds up to 50 records at a time; if even one of them does not match the list's fields, none is added, and the AI fixes them itself. Files and images in records are links, as with [import from Excel](https://support.watbot.org/lists/import-export#preparing-a-file-for-import). For a large catalogue, import is more convenient.
- A team member needs the "Creating lists" and "Creating records" permissions in the bot the chat works with — or the "Editing scenarios" permission.

Building a bot is described on the [Building a bot in the AI chat](https://support.watbot.org/chatbots/ai-builder) page.

Building a mini app is covered on the [Building an app in the AI chat](https://support.watbot.org/mini-apps/ai-builder) page.
