# Creating a list and fields

## Creating a list

1. Open "Lists" in the project's menu and click "Create". In the bot's "Lists" section the button is called "Create list".
2. In the "Name" field, enter the list's name — for example, "Bouquets".
3. In the "Fields" block, click "Add". Choose the field type and enter its name.
4. Add the other fields. A list must have at least one field.
5. Click "Create".

Fields go in the order you added them. They are shown in the same order in the table of records and in the record form.

> [!TIP]
> You can also create a list without leaving the scheme: click "Open lists" in the block settings, then "Create list". The new list is chosen in the block right away.

You can also ask the AI in the AI chat for a list with fields and records — see [Creating a list with AI](https://support.watbot.org/lists/ai-builder).

## Field types

![Choosing a field type in the new list form](https://support.watbot.org/_media/en/10-lists/_images/field-types.webp?v=1791781230)

| Type | What it stores | How it is filled in |
|---|---|---|
| "Text" | A line or several lines of text | An input field |
| "Number" | A whole or fractional number | A number input field |
| "Yes/No" | "Yes" or "No" | A switch |
| "Date" | A day | A calendar |
| "Date and time" | A day and a time | A calendar with a time picker |
| "Money" | An amount in the chosen currency | An amount input field. Choose the currency next to the field type |
| "File" | One file | A file upload |
| "Image" | One image | An image upload |
| "Contact ID" | A link to a bot contact | A contact search. Contacts of your bots are suitable |
| "Bot ID" | A link to a bot | A bot search. Your bots are suitable |

In the bot's messages and in the table of records, a money field is shown already formatted — with separators and the currency sign.

A "Contact ID" field links a record to a person: for example, a request to the one who left it. In the table of records, such a field shows the contact's name with a link to their card.

## Field settings

Every field has three switches:

- **"Required field"** — the field is required when a record is created: without a value in it, the record is not saved in your account.
- **"Hide field from interface"** — the field is absent from the table of records and from the record editing form. It stays in the new record form. The field is not hidden from the bot's blocks.
- **"Encrypt field"** — the value is stored encrypted. Available only for the "Text" and "Number" types. You cannot filter or sort records by encrypted fields.

## The field's name in templates

When a field is created, the platform gives it a name for templates — its name in Latin letters, in lowercase, with underscores instead of spaces. A "Title" field gets the name `title`, and in a message template it is written as `{{ title }}`.

You do not need to type these names by hand: in the block settings, fields are inserted with buttons and chosen from a list.

After a field is renamed, its name for templates stays the same — the templates in blocks keep working.

## Changing a list

In the "Lists" section of the project's menu, choose "⋯" → "Edit the list". In the bot's "Lists" section, click the pencil icon in the list's row.

What can be changed:

- the list's name;
- a field's name;
- the "Required field" and "Hide field from interface" switches;
- the set of fields — you can add new ones.

The type, currency and encryption of a saved field cannot be changed. If the type was chosen wrongly, add a new field with the right type and delete the old one.

Only the list's name is changed by the "Rename" item in the "⋯" menu.

## Deleting a field

Click the bin icon in the field's row. For a saved field, the platform asks: "Are you sure you want to delete this field?".

> [!WARNING]
> The field is deleted right after you confirm — there is no need to click "Save". The values of this field are erased in all records of the list. They cannot be restored.

## Deleting a list

In the "Lists" section of the project's menu, choose "⋯" → "Delete" and confirm: "Are you sure you want to delete this list?". In the bot's "Lists" section, click the bin icon in the list's row.

Before deleting, check that the list is not chosen in the scenario blocks.
