# Student portal

The student portal is the school's website for students. It opens from the "Link for students" in the [school settings](https://support.watbot.org/schools/settings): on the shared schools domain or on your own domain. Inside is your design: logo, cover, accent color, language.

The easiest way to see the student portal through a student's eyes: open the link in another browser and sign up with your second email address.

## Sign-up and sign-in

**By email.** The student clicks "Sign up", enters a name, email and password (at least 8 characters) and confirms that they accept the offer, the privacy policy and the consent to personal data processing — the links lead to your documents. An email with a link arrives: until the student confirms their email, they cannot sign in. The link is valid for 48 hours; if it has expired, the email is sent again when they try to sign in.

**With a platform account.** If "Sign in with Watbot" is turned on in the settings, the sign-in page has a "Sign in with Watbot" button. The student sees what data the school will get: name, email and photo. If they do not have an account in the school yet, it is created on the first sign-in.

**From a messenger.** If a chatbot is connected to the school, the student opens the student portal with a button in the bot and signs in without a password — after linking the messenger to the account once. See the [Students](https://support.watbot.org/schools/students) page for details.

**Forgot password.** The "Forgot your password?" link on the sign-in page sends an email with a link to change the password. The link is valid for 60 minutes.

If the school limits the number of concurrent sessions, signing in on a new device closes the oldest one — there the student will see "Signed in on another device. Please sign in again."

## Course catalogue

The main page of the student portal is "Courses": the school's published courses with covers. At the top are the school cover and title, and if "Graduates counter" is turned on — the number of graduates.

![Course catalogue: school cover, page tabs and course cards](https://support.watbot.org/_media/en/07-schools/_images/cabinet-courses.webp?v=1791781230)

Next to "Courses" are the tabs of your [pages](https://support.watbot.org/schools/settings), for example "About the school" or "Contacts".

If the school is public, guests see the catalogue and the course page without signing in. If not, all content opens only after signing in.

## Course page

The course page has a description, a cover and the "Curriculum": sections and lessons. Completed lessons are marked, and closed ones show the reason:

- "Opens later" with a date and time — a lesson with delayed opening;
- "Finish the previous lesson";
- "Finish the previous section";
- "Waiting for the previous lesson to be reviewed" — the assignment has been submitted and is waiting for the curator.

How to enroll:

- **A free course** — the "Start learning" button.
- **A paid course** — the "Choose your format" block with packages: name, price, term, what is included. The student clicks "Buy" and goes to payment. If they already have a package, they can "Pay the difference" for a more expensive one — what they have paid is credited.

If the course has a placement test, the student sees "Let us find your level" and the "Take the test" button before the curriculum. After the test, they go to their section, and the sections before it are counted as completed.

When access has ended, the student sees the reason instead of the curriculum: "Your access to this course has expired.", "The school has paused your access to this course." or "The school has closed your access to this course."

A completed course is marked "Course completed"; if a certificate has been issued, the course page has a link to it with its number.

## Lesson

The lesson page has:

- **content** — text, images, video. Video plays in the built-in player: quality selection, volume, full screen. The student's email may be shown over the video — it cannot be removed, otherwise playback stops;
- **quizzes** — the student answers and immediately sees the result and, if allowed, the answer review;
- **"Homework"** — a field for the answer and the "Attach a file" button, then "Send for review". The conversation with the curator is here too;
- **"Questions about the lesson"** — a question to the curator and the answers to it;
- **"I have finished the lesson"** — mark the lesson as completed. If the lesson counts as completed after the assignment is reviewed, there is no button: the curator will close the lesson;
- the "Previous lesson" and "Next lesson" links.

If the lesson has a time set, the student sees "Takes about …". A free lesson of a paid course is marked "This is a free lesson of the course" with a hint that the other lessons will open after payment.

## Profile

The "Profile" menu in the student portal header:

- name and photo. The student cannot change their email;
- "Messenger" — connect the school chatbot for notifications;
- "Platform account" — unlink the account the student used to sign in;
- "Notifications" — "E-mails" about assignment reviews and curator answers, and "Messages in the messenger". Emails about sign-in and password changes always arrive;
- "Delete account" — with password confirmation. Access to courses will close; if the student signs in again within 30 days, the account comes back together with the progress.

The header also switches the theme: "System", "Light theme", "Dark theme". If the "Support e-mail" is set in the school settings, the student portal shows the hint "Need help? Write to us:" with this address.

## What a student sees if the school is not working

- **A school without a plan.** New students cannot sign up, courses are not sold, and guests do not see the catalogue. See the [Creating a school and its plan](https://support.watbot.org/schools/start) page for details.
- **A school closed by the platform.** The student portal does not open at all, and the student sees "The school is temporarily unavailable. Please contact the school." See the [Team members and content review](https://support.watbot.org/schools/team) page for details.
